History of Aviator Sunglasses
During WWII, many advances in technology and military power enabled countries involved in the war to fight on land, sea, and air. For many pilots, it was customary to sport fur-lined goggles to protect their eyes from the elements. Unfortunately, these goggles came with significant drawbacks, and instead of helping to increase visibility, they did the opposite.
The courageous pilots needed a solution to protect the land of the free and the home of the brave. A whole new concept was created to help fighter pilots see clearer, protect their eyes from the elements, increase visibility and decrease headaches caused by glare. The solution? Aviator sunglasses.
These were not only more comfortable to wear during infamous dogfights, but they protected the pilot’s eyes from glare while flying high above enemy territory. Since then, the military-inspired style was also popularized by celebrities like Clark Gable, James Dean, Michael Jackson, and Elvis. In 1986, heartthrob Tom Cruise graced the movie screens with his character Maverick in Top Gun. His looks weren’t the only thing that move-goers were swooning after. Aviator sunglasses once again skyrocketed in popularity, making them one of the most popular sunglasses in the world.

Caribbean Sun aviator sunglasses are inspired by the classic aviator shape but with a modern twist. They're made of the finest metal and stainless-steel alloys, giving them a high strength-to-weight ratio. We also added flexible, hypoallergenic box nose rocker pads for a custom fit on your nose and finished it off with our Caribbean Sun icon embedded in every handmade acetate temple tip.

Polarized Technology
If you're unfamiliar with the polarization technology we use in every pair of sunglasses, it's good to know what it does and why it's essential. Polarized lenses filter light reflected on water, snow, and other reflective surfaces. This filtering process allows you to see more clearly through your sunglasses without squinting or closing your eyes.
The benefit of polarized lenses is especially apparent when driving or flying in an airplane. We add our heart and soul to every pair of Caribbean Sun sunglass, and our classic aviators are no different. Each pair sport our proprietary polarized glass lens using our Green-15 base color. We also added a multi-layer anti-reflective back coating to prevent bounce-back glare.
