A good pair of classic aviator sunglasses are hard to come by. Nowadays, companies create what they believe to be a top-notch pair of sunglasses that often fall short of holding up to the stardom behind the true classic aviators.
At Caribbean Sun, we have made it our mission to create high-quality sunglasses at a fraction of the cost. Our classic aviator sunglasses combine modern polarization technology and classic designs which encompass the notorious history behind every pair of Caribbean Sun aviator sunglasses.
History of Aviator Sunglasses
During WWII, many advances in technology and military power enabled countries involved in the war to fight on land, sea, and air. For many pilots, it was customary to sport fur-lined goggles to protect their eyes from the elements. Unfortunately, these goggles came with significant drawbacks, and instead of helping to increase visibility, they did the opposite.
The courageous pilots needed a solution to protect the land of the free and the home of the brave. A whole new concept was created to help fighter pilots see clearer, protect their eyes from the elements, increase visibility and decrease headaches caused by glare. The solution? Aviator sunglasses.
These were not only more comfortable to wear during infamous dogfights, but they protected the pilot’s eyes from glare while flying high above enemy territory. Since then, the military-inspired style was also popularized by celebrities like Clark Gable, James Dean, Michael Jackson, and Elvis. In 1986, heartthrob Tom Cruise graced the movie screens with his character Maverick in Top Gun. His looks weren’t the only thing that move-goers were swooning after. Aviator sunglasses once again skyrocketed in popularity, making them one of the most popular sunglasses in the world.
These days, you'll find aviators worn by everyone from actors to athletes to musicians; even if you're not into the celebrity thing, there's no denying that these classic frames look good on just about everyone!
Caribbean Sun Aviator Sunglasses
The Caribbean Sun aviator takes inspiration from its iconic design and combines modern-day technology with old-world craftsmanship. We use premium materials to make the frame, draw inspiration from the original aviator sunglasses, and add some of our favorite features that make these shades unique. Our sunglasses are stylish and durable enough to last you through the years.
Caribbean Sun aviator sunglasses are inspired by the classic aviator shape but with a modern twist. They're made of the finest metal and stainless-steel alloys, giving them a high strength-to-weight ratio. We also added flexible, hypoallergenic box nose rocker pads for a custom fit on your nose and finished it off with our Caribbean Sun icon embedded in every handmade acetate temple tip.
We believe in quality over quantity; that makes our sunglasses durable and built to last. They can withstand the elements and normal wear and tear. Since they’re designed for use in all kinds of weather—from the sunniest days at the beach to the stormy, rainy season—you won't need to worry about them getting damaged. But not to worry if they do because we offer accessible repair services through our website.
If you're unfamiliar with the polarization technology we use in every pair of sunglasses, it's good to know what it does and why it's essential. Polarized lenses filter light reflected on water, snow, and other reflective surfaces. This filtering process allows you to see more clearly through your sunglasses without squinting or closing your eyes.
The benefit of polarized lenses is especially apparent when driving or flying in an airplane. We add our heart and soul to every pair of Caribbean Sun sunglass, and our classic aviators are no different. Each pair sport our proprietary polarized glass lens using our Green-15 base color. We also added a multi-layer anti-reflective back coating to prevent bounce-back glare.
See the World in a Whole New Light
Aviator sunglasses don't just look cool—they are cool. They've been a fixture of the fashion scene since they were worn by fighter pilots in WWII and have become one of the most enduring styles in sunglasses history.
At Caribbean Sun, we are all about transparency, unlike many other companies who live by the infamous quote from Maverick: "It’s classified, I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.”
